Skyline Drive Shenandoah National Park Front Royal, Virginia

Wide Wide World of Bears

Travelin' south, heading back home to Birmingham / Leeds, Alabama will take about another week. Travelin' South today.

Yesterday got off that god awful traffic I- 81s to wind down through Shenadoah. This is where a journey gets good. The freedom to wander.

Just because you wander doesn't mean your lost.

Getting on the back roads you don't neccessarily know the exact place you're headed, ... or what entails getting there, or what's in store there,... but finding out is the fun part of a journey.

Skyline Drive is the northernmost leg of the Blueridge parkway -- same road-- this is just the northern part that was sectioned off / set aside for Shenadoah National Park.

And I like this northern part of the drive better as it's more pristene wilderness than the Blueridge pkway. -- Also see Blueridge Parkway post when done-- (Blueridge pkwy, although very beautiful in places... is a "Right of Way" and in places there are homes w/ above ground pools 300' from the roadway)

The ridges and valleys of the Appalachians running through this part of Western Virginia is known as Shenadoah.

Scenic, geography, and past history... a very remarkable place.

A wonderful drive!

If there's one thing Tracks of the StoneBear is about... it's family.

And was fortunate enough today to drop in and see some family; brothers and nephews pictured below. ... saw 5 Black Bears in 2 days.

It's a Bear world after all.
