Neils Harbor, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

Neil. My Marine buddy Neil... that is all I can think of when I come to this place.

Driving north on the Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Nova Scotia is a treat. Really picturesue going through the villages.... in the remote stretches... the geography is superb.

Then... we come to Neils Harbor,... the northeast most point of Cape Breton. Lost my Marine buddy Neil only a few months ago... suddenly and it was a real shock. to me... to all his friends. Made you really stop and think about the big picture and how we;re just passing through.

Just the name Neil brought his memory front and center. So let's see what it is about this place. ?What am I supposed to see here and learn? ?about this place.... about me?

Rugged, raw, real working fishing village.... again... like many other in the maritimes. Big white barn warehouse for seafood / catches overlooks the docks. Red trim , Gambrell roof.

A jetty out into the cove. a dozen fishing boats at anchor.... That is it. It's all quiet. No activity on the pier / docks. Neil has already gone on. Gone on ahead... out to sea.

A gray, overcast.... somewhat sad... beautiful place... appropriatly named Neils Harbor.

Walke up onto the plateau point... Lighthouse is beautiful. White w/ red tower/ lantern room. Rocky point in the harbor, surf pounding away. Wind is 10 to 15. Tide going out.

I remember Neil doing the west coast swing , ... and bop... living life to ist's fullest... then Neil was gone. ... went on ahead. This was your place... a fury among the tides. ... a stir among the tides.... ....the rush of the surf banging on the rocks of the harbor... surely this was you. You made the dances so much fun.... we all miss you!!!
