Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse #68

MARNE 23 #68

Monday July 11, 2011

Rocky Harbor, Newfoundland 2

Gros Morne national park

Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse

Lobster Cove Head lighthouse has marked the marine approach to Rocky Harbour and the entrance of Bonne Bay since 1897.

The light is still run by the Canadian Coast Guard. It is now automated, but the lightkeeper's house is open as a park interpretive exhibit.
The exhibit interprets how ancestral native people have lived along this coast and harvested the sea for more than 4,000 years.

It's a clear day and the sun on the blue ocean water, green mountain forested background is really good. The previous day was overcast w/ fog and limited visability so this was a treat.

Wind is about 20+.... Thick air here at sea level... deep breaths of pure clean air! A very unique place!

A turkey samich picnic lunch overlooking Bonne Bay, ... a view of the lighthouse, the cove -the West coast of Newfoundland, and mountains... Gros Morne at 2, 466' elev. ... all in one place!

This is a great day! Thank you for this gift!
