Black Fox , Newfoundland 21 #64

MARNE 21 # 64

July 10, 2011

North of Port aux Basques, Newfoundland

Crossing the North Sea at night.... it was .... wicked is the only word I can come up with .... the North Sea is not for the feight of heart.

After being up most of the night on the ferry across... now at 6am to roll out .... about # 20 off of the # 1 main flat deck with EVERY 18 wheel trucker that had been waiting for 12 hours on the docks at North Sydney, Nova Scotia... all waiting to get on the road....

It was like Mad Max was behind us. .. breathing down our necks on the ONLY road north out of port aux Basques.

Driving in the fog and wind of 40+... sometimes 50+ mph crosswind on the road... at times i thought we would go up onto 2 wheels. It was not a pleasant drive after being up nearly 20 hours.

The sprint north on the TCH - Trans Canada Hwy 2 was harrowing. Watching for the oncoming traffic being blown over into our lane....fighting the wind to stay on the right side lane...staying alert after 20 hours was challenging.

The 1st stop at 26 miles up was at a remote gas station for acup of awuful coffee... about 20 more miles was a station with a resturaunt. T-bird said absolutely STOP ... ok a place to regroup. Small cafe/ resturaunt.... order breakfast -- who knows what it will be in Newfoundland.

A motorcycle rider says he knows "Bugsy" and they are a good act. Way to go Bugsy!

To gain my composure I start to walk around. Out back of the station.... a Black Fox !!! I snap pix as fast as I could. I don't know if this is a rare fox / sighting.... it seems sureal. It was like this fox was up here to scavenge from the garbage bins. I didn't question; just took pix as fast as I could.

This little scutter was unique!!!
